William Smith founded Jericho Distillery in 1822, named after its water-source, the Jordan Burn.
A farm distillery for its entire existence, Jericho produced whisky made entirely from the local produce and were pioneers in the sherry cask maturation.
Renamed Benachie in 1884, the Aberdeenshire-based distillery was closed in 1913 due to its remoteness.
